Jeffery, his wife Sisi and son Xiang became New Zealand citizens last week and went out to dinner to celebrate. Joining them were his main bridge partners Malcolm Smith and Mark Thomson and their wives Alyson and Karen and Jeffrey's staff member Shirley. Kia Ora Jeffery!

An outstanding result today for Ross Stewart in Putaruru. Playing with Te Aroha junior Rochelle Van Heuven the pair punched well above their combined weights to take the runner up slot in Putaruru's Open 8B tournament ahead of many strong pairings. A creditable 54.36% in the morning was followed up with a superb 64.20% in the afternoon. They finished just a fraction off the top spot taken by Aucklands Alan Dormer and Anthony Hopkins. In joint third place were Hamilton second club members Henk and Hermanna Kalma, with Anna Kalma and Michael Neels.

At the InterProvincial trials at the weekend in Tauranga two Hamilton players were on form securing a place in the Waikato Bays InterProvincial team to represent the region in November this year in Dunedin. Hamilton's Yuzhong Chen and partner Hank Peng did not look back from Round 1, holding their winning position over the other 17 competing pairs the whole weekend and taking out first place by some margin. They will represent the region in the Open team. Hamilton's Ian Clayton, playing with Alan Turner, came 4th overall securing them the second pairing in the Open Team. We wish them good luck in November.

Many congratulations to Alan Parkes and Graham Stern who won the 5A Open title at Taupo over the weekend.

The event is played over three sessions across the weekend. They cleared 60% in their first session on Saturday afternoon and followed this up with an outstanding performance in the evening recording 71.91%. A 53.74% on Sunday morning was enough for them to take the title ahead of Hamilton's Ian Clayton playing with Alan Turner.
Melinda Wang and Catherine Cameron played well at the Matamata Junior tournament last weekend. They are currently studying the Nesting Pairs course and deployed some of their new bidding techniques to finish in 4th spot in a field of 28 pairs. Congratulations to them!

Congratulations to Hamilton's Yuzhong Chen playing with Cambridge's Herman at Tauranga on Saturday. They won the 5A title, followed by Hamilton's Brett Glass and Gary Foidl in the runner up slot.

22 TABLES AT HAMILTON RESTRICTED

The club rooms were packed with players from many clubs and many grades for the popular Restricted Tournament today. The food on offer was outstanding with a full meal provided at lunchtime together with an excellent morning and afternoon tea. Combined with a free glass of wine by sponsor HEARTLAND BANK this event proved a winner and most enjoyable day for all participants.

The winners today were visitors from Rotorua Pam Moore and Margaret Robbie. Pam's husband Ian Moore playing with Roger Dempster took second place, something which Pam was keen to emphasise in her acceptance speech when she spoke of her enjoyment of the event today.

Hamilton players were well served in the restricted ranks. Third place in the Open/Int category were Cynthia Clayton and Nick Yeomans.

Securing the best non-open pair in Heat 2 of the Waikato Area Pairs held at the Waikato Bridge Club on Sunday were Hamilton's Nigel Gresson and Phil Thompson. Well played gentlemen!
