RealBridge @ Hamilton Bridge - Teams Results

Waikato Bays / Hamilton Teams - This event took place over the Sunday and Monday of Labour weekend and was the first on-line event the Hamilton Club has ever run. 54 teams from all over New Zealand plus 3 Australian players took part in what turned out to be a very popular event amongst the participants

The first list shows the overall top eight teams in the event while the Hamilton 500 lists the first 3 teams where the players have between 200 and 500 rating points. Similarly the Hamilton 200 is limited to players whose rating points are between 0 and 200. The event proved popular even amongst those not taking part with up to 70 Kibitzing the event at times

Hamilton Bridge restarts from 28 September

Image of Coronavirus Update notice
NZ bridge has advised that Bridge clubs can reopen for play at Lock-down Level 2 if they choose, with certain safety standards. Several clubs in our region and many in other parts of the country have partially reopened or are preparing to reopen shortly

Your committee has met and the decision was made to reopen the club starting the coming Tuesday of next week - 28 September, with sessions on Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening, Thursday evening and Friday morning ( Friday numbers are capped at 100 due to the Lock-down rules )

Obviously, it is an individual decision whether you wish to play in Level 2 and the committee understands that

At the current Level 2 our safety precautions are the following:
•    If you come to bridge you must be well and have no symptoms of any illness
•   The use of face masks is mandatory. The club has a limited number of disposable ones available but please bring your own
•   The kitchen will be closed
•   Members of the Hamilton Club only - NO VISITORS
•   You bring your own pen that travels with you
•   Only South will handle the BridgeMate. East will verbally agree to the score
•   Hand sanitiser to be used will be provided at the entrance to the playing rooms and selected locations in both rooms
•   Contact details will be recorded as per the government Covid requirements
•   Friday Day Bridge - dependent on numbers as to room allocation. TBC on the day but in one room if possible

Should we find that insufficient numbers decide to play at Lock-down Level 2, we will again stop bridge until Lock-down Level 1 is achieved

There will be a further update on the club website after the next Government announcement should change be required

Suspension of ALL bridge @ Hamilton - updated 14 September

Image of Coronavirus Update notice

There is no change to play at the Hamilton Club - all bridge is suspended

Monday 13th September -

The Government made no changes to the lock-down's applying to the country today extending them both till Tuesday 21st next week. Hence suspension of bridge at the Club continues until at least the next update from the government

Thursday 9th September -

As indicated earlier this week the committee met to discuss what conditions are necessary for Bridge to resume at Hamilton.

The result of the meeting was no change to the suspension until at least next week when the government changes to the rules applying at the next lower level of lock-down are released.

Until these are known it is not possible to make an informed decision of what will be required so Hamilton bridge will remain suspended until level 1 or its equivalent level of lock-down is reached

Take care and keep safe

Suspension of ALL bridge @ Hamilton - updated 7 September

Image of Coronavirus Update notice

Tuesday 7th September -

All bridge remains currently remains suspended at the Hamilton Club

The change in the rules applying to the current level of Lock-down announced by the government yesterday likely allows for the playing of bridge at this lock-down level. However it certainly doesn't make it easy ( see the government rules here ) for the Club to apply all

The latest update from NZ Bridge helps with the levels / rules that need to be met / apply but some further confirmation is required first. The Clubs Committee will meet Thursday and will provide an indication to the membership as to when bridge will resume.

Take care and keep you and your bubbles safe

Waikato Bays Swiss Pairs @ Hamilton

Image of Coronavirus

The Waikato Bays Regional Swiss Pairs scheduled for September 4th @ the Hamilton Club has been cancelled

The level of Lock-down currently to be imposed next week by the government makes this event impossible to take place

To those who had entered thanks very much for supporting the Club. The Club will be in touch when the Lock-down level again allows us access to our building when we will arrange repayment of entry fees to those who have already paid

Take care

Improvers Lesson with an Irish Theme

The Club was organising the next in Barry's Improver Lessons which along with the lessons incorporated an Irish themed dinner to start our member Hugh McGann off in style playing bridge for the Irish Team in games against other European Countries.
This planning may have all been for nought as one of the world's smallest organisms was able to put all 5 million who call NZ home into lock-down to finish this week off !
So, depending on how the lock-down progresses, this event may be cancelled but if you see our posters out there you now know what they are all about........

2021 WAP results

The final heat of the Waikato Area Pairs (WAPs) was held at the club on Sunday with Hamilton members featuring in many of the podium places. This competition runs throughout the year with six heats held at different Waikato clubs. Prizes and A points are distributed to session and overall winners of each heat and also to the overall winners of the combined heats. This is an excellent competition for intermediate and keen junior players to improve their bridge skills playing against open players in a friendly, relaxed setting (if there is such a thing in bridge).

Pam & Ian Moore - 2021 WAP winners

This year's overall winners were Pam and Ian Moore. Ian Ross and Phil Thompson not only won the best non-open prize in the Hamilton heat, but also featuring 3rd in the heat placings. An excellent result, but I think Ian needs to get another joke in his repertoire. Ella Gray is the WAP Manager and she would love to see more intermediate and junior players participating in the WAPs next year. Look out for the poster to see the relevant 2022 dates - heats are held once a month.
