WBays I and J Leagues
Congratulations All
Round 5 of the Waikato Bays Junior & Intermediate Leagues took place over the last weekend in August. Three Hamilton Pairs and a half pair competed in the event. While the results on the day were mixed, Hamilton Pairs did extend their positions in the overall League places for 2026. Well done to Hamilton pairs Aini Su & Lucy Schumacher, Kevin Lawrence & Sean Dwyer and Maggie Fisher & Karen Mackenzie for consolidating places in the league.
It hasn't been such a great year for the Club's Intermediate players in the I League after this years re-grading of Hamilton players from Junior to Intermediate grade at the start of the year....
The final event of this years competition is in October at Te Awamutu. After 5 rounds Aini Su, Annette Downey, Kevin Lawrence & Sean Dwyer hold the top 4 places in the J League.
It should be noted the event is run as an Individual Competition so results awarded in each round when summed do not necessarily result in the same positions overall at the finish !

Scoring
This series it seems has the most complicate scoring system known to a bridge player - an advanced qualification in mathematics would help ! We gave up hence the results come from the Waikato Bays Web site - thanks
This is run as an individual event, so you may swap partners between the 6 tournaments making up the event though one would think a stable / regular partnership should score better overall
Players collect points for -
- Entering a tournament
- Achieving an average of 50% over the 2 sessions
- Outright wins of a session and overall placings
- Overall placings at each tournament based on number of tables
