Hamilton players were at the forefront of the action in the annual Thames Festival to start the year. Waikato Bays Region worked in collaboration with Thames Bridge Club to ensure this popular event took place in its regular slot as the season starter for the region. Allan Barclay, described as a great servant to the game of bridge by Waikato Bays Chairperson Rona Driscoll was keenly missed. Allan's son Greg was on hand with Denise to congratulate the winners in the closing prizegiving celebration.
In the John Eldridge 5A Teams success went to the CLAYTON team featuring Ian and Cynthia Clayton from Hamilton with their team mates Ian and Pam Moore.

In the renamed Allan Barclay Pairs it was Barry Jones and Jenny Millington who came through to win the event.

The Festival Walk-In Pairs event held over two evenings was also won by Hamilton members, Brett Glass and Gary Foidl.
