NORTH ISLAND PAIRS 2020 – WEEKEND of June 20...21st

The Hamilton Club and NZ Bridge have been in discussions about the hosting of this event at Hamilton in approx. 1 months’ time. Both of us are keen to see if a way forward can be found for the event to take place.

It would seem that as the severity of the pandemic is decreasing in the community that there is a reasonable chance that this weekend, June 20...21st will allow the Club to host this event as well as signalling the restart of bridge at Hamilton

Confirmation of both these events happening may be available as early as next week after Cabinet has discussed the state Covid-19 in NZ after the move to Level 2

However none of this will happen unless

- the Club gets solid affirmative advice from both Ministry of Health / NZ Government and NZ Bridge, and

- the committee agrees with this advice and also agrees that this advice will allow the club to be open for play for our members, and that

- the committee is able to take all the necessary precautions to ensure the club rooms are a safe environment both for players / helpers during the event as well as ongoing for our members after the event

Survey Results

The Club would like to thank all members who completed last weeks survey

We had 121 responses to the survey from the 220 odd email addresses of club members we have - an around 45% response. If you consider only around 200 of our 270 members actually play bridge at all during the year this response level climbs to 60%. Thank you also to the 40 odd members who provided feedback commenting on the questions. Most organisers of surveys would be overjoyed with this level of response so well done all !

From the results it is obvious that, although many members are enjoying playing on BBO, they are very keen to get back to both see and play bridge with their friends and other members

( N.B. Click on "Read More" below if the results of the survey are not displayed )

Hamilton Success

Members of the Hamilton Club enjoyed considerable success Saturday at the Rotorua Xmas Tournament. This success came in a very large field of 78 pairs with the Hamilton Club filling first, second & 4th places!

1st   Yuzhong Chen and Gary Foidl

2nd   Liz Fisher and Sam Simpson

4th   Ella Gray and Dallas Dagg

The previous weekend in Dunedin Mark Thomson and Jeffrey Chang were in the Waikato Bays team that finished 2nd in the Intermediate section of the National Inter-provincial Teams competition.

A very successful fortnight for our Club

Eileen Brunt

The Club sadly notes the passing of our member Eileen Brunt.
Long time Club member Eileen, who played regularly several times each week at the Club, passed away Saturday. The club extends our sympathy to Eileen's friends and family.

A service will be held at Seddon Park Funeral Home Chapel, 49 Seddon Road, Hamilton on Thursday, 8th December 2016 at 2.30pm.

Mike Barton

After a long illness Hamilton Bridge Club member Mike Barton has today ( Tuesday ) passed away

The Club expresses its sympathy to fellow Club member Cherie Barton ( Cherie Aston ) and to members of both families.
