Our Clubrooms

The garden around the bridge club has had a make-over this weekend.
Margaret Boyd organised a working bee on Saturday to take out some trees, trim branches and shrubs as well as putting additional stones around the garden. The property looks neat and tidy after some extensive effort from a few members.
As well as thanking Margaret, I am grateful for the support and efforts of Mark Thomson, Paul and Yvonne Stevens, Malcolm and Alison Smith and Richard Wagstaff. Without the efforts of members our club rooms would not look as attractive.

A reminder about the Restricted Tournament on Sunday April 15th: if you are not intending to play, can you please volunteer for a couple of hours in the kitchen? Please let Nigel know if you are available. We really want this tournament to be a great success.

More is better !

Bridge lessons for 2018 start next week and there has been a good response to the advertising, flyers etc. but even more learners would be better. The Club - which is all of us - really need the lessons to be successful so we can keep the Club running as it does now!
In a typical year the membership falls by around 10%, so without lessons and new members our current membership of approx. 300 is going to become a lot smaller and the remaining membership will be looking very sad due to their "subs" becoming unaffordable.
The song has not changed unfortunately with our income basically static and costs increasing - as an example the insurance bill has increased by over 400% to more than $7000 which is a very large ouch! We will collectively need to play a large number of bridge sessions to pay that one bill and it is as they say one of many.....

So that the Club will survive for a long time into the future our membership needs to grow so encourage your family, friends, work colleagues etc. to come along to the lessons next week ( if they can't make the lessons next week then the following week while not opportune will be okay )

Barry Jones is running the lessons this year - further info on the lessons and contact details can be found here

To help the "sales job" a nice little piece from the Hamilton Press talking to Barry & Jenny on bridge can be found here - show it to friends and family to hopefully interest them.....

Bridge is back................

Welcome to 2018

Introducing our new Secretary

Members will see the friendly face of Donna Prentice in the office from this coming week. Donna will start her new position as Club Secretary on Tuesday 23rd January. Donna started playing bridge at our club, a graduate of our 2016 year, coming through in that short time to be a regular Thursday night and Friday morning attendee. Donna’s main attributes - her very approachable manner and can-do attitude, means members will be very well served in all aspects of the administration of our club. I am sure all members will make Donna welcome in her new role, be helpful to her and understand that she will not know all the answers immediately, but she will solve any queries or problems you have.

Donna’s days in the office will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Friday morning (before the bridge session) and early afternoon.

Directing

Please register if you wish to attend either in Rotorua on the Saturday or Cambridge on Sunday. We need to know numbers for catering and copying of material purposes.

Reading Blogs.......

Did you know that some of the blogs on the web site have more content that what is shown ?

This happens because front page space is precious and as different devices ( tablets, notebooks, desktops.... ) show differing amounts of the screen its difficult to decide how much of a story to display. So stories are often truncated on the screen

So if Read more is present click "Read more" and the complete story will be displayed. Happy reading......
