"Close Bridge" - Charles Holland Goodwin Pairs

The third and final round of the Charles Holland Goodwin Pairs will be decided here on Friday morning. Bridge can't can't get any closer than this - there is only 0.26% between the leaders Blair and Liz Fisher and Lindsay Reid and Ian Clayton in a big field of players. The current ladder can be found here

It's also exciting to see that that Liz and Michael Kelly have a handy lead in the Handicap event going into this Friday.

$10 Man!

The North Island Teams 20A tournament took place in Auckland over the weekend just gone. Congratulations to Hamilton pair Jenny Millington and Barry Jones who, with long-time team-mates Patrick Carter and Julie Atkinson came second in this marathon of bridge. Full results may be seen by clicking here.

One amusing tale from the weekend ..

WAP 1 at Hamilton last Sunday

Congratulations to Diane & Jane for first place, Barry & Jenny for coming second and the Healy's in 5th place

Vouchers for Bridge.....

Most members know that the Club awards vouchers for Bridge Sessions. However did you know you can purchase table vouchers in advance ? Think how convenient it would be not having to find small change each time you play bridge, and it also makes life easier for the directors and our secretary

There are several ways of purchasing the vouchers:

•   Ask your director - they have a limited number of voucher packs - 5 vouchers for $15 available for purchase

•   Email the secretary with your details ( name & bridge number ) and then pay by internet banking with your Bridge Number & code ‘Vouchers’ in the Banking Application "free entry" fields

•   Via the director with an envelope containing your details and a cheque or cash at any bridge session ( as our secretary is part time allow for this in the delivery time )

•   See Yvonne in the office ( see programme book for office hours )

New Directors

Hamilton Club has two recently qualified Club Directors in it's membership

Congratulations to Ella Gray and Phil Thompson - both were successful in the latest exam series run by NZ Bridge

Directing - Interested ?

The Waikato Bays Regional Committee is arranging for one or two weekend seminars next year, aimed at new and prospective directors. We will let you know the details of these in due course.

However, if you don't want to wait, you might like to consider directing training in Taupo in January.

I am organising training for new directors in the Taupo Club, and am happy to open it up to anyone else from Waikato Bays who would like to come. This will be 3 Wednesday afternoons in January, starting at 2pm:
• 11 January: Intro to directing, how to read the law book, manual etc
• 18 January: Movements for bridge sessions and how to set up the computer
• 25 January: Common rulings
There will be no charge.

Although it might be a long way to come, you might like to make a day of it - have a dip in the lake in the morning, do the seminar in the afternoon, go out to one of Taupo's fabulous eating places for dinner, and play bridge at night.

If you would like to come or have further questions, please email taupobridge@xtra.co.nz or ronadriscoll@xtra.co.nz
