Wednesday Night Teams - the results.........

Hamilton Bridge - A Comedy of Errors

A Comedy of Errors

Setting the Scene:

The last night of the Barbara Minogue teams.  8 teams playing and the winners names will be put on the board for all to read.  No pressure then.

The Problem:

Computers are wonderful things, aren't they?  When they work well they are terrific. When monkeys in control they can go awry.  That's what happened last night. This monkey (Cherie Barton) couldn't get the bridgemates working.  I called in reinforcements (Dallas Dagg) and she managed to get the first session working.  Neither of us could get the final session to read.  We tried and tried and eventually gave up.

The Solution:

All is not lost. The players recorded their results on paper in a very old school way.  Fortunately, all present knew how to work a pen and paper and did a magnificent job of it too. ( Click "Read more" below )

Sunday's Restricted

The club is gearing up for a great day out at its Restricted Tournament on Sunday. At last count there were 112 players entered , 28 tables in all, which means both rooms will be in use with many of our club members taking part. Jane and her team will be providing another of their wonderful lunches for the players and thanks to our generous sponsor URGE Tea and Coffee Boutique, there will be good prizes for those in all grades who do well on the day.

Our very own Cherie Barton is directing and it will be a massive job for her looking after this huge field. Go well Cherie. Any club members not taking part are welcome to come along and watch if they wish. The clubrooms will be buzzing !

The first session starts at 10am after a welcome by President Nigel, and it should be all over by about 5pm. After playing around 50 hands many of the players who may be playing their first ever tournament will sleep well on Sunday night and will no doubt appreciate the extra hour from the end of daylight saving this weekend.

Good luck to all our members who have been brave enough to put their names forward and have a go, I'm sure you are in for a very good day.

"Close Bridge" - Charles Holland Goodwin Pairs

The third and final round of the Charles Holland Goodwin Pairs will be decided here on Friday morning. Bridge can't can't get any closer than this - there is only 0.26% between the leaders Blair and Liz Fisher and Lindsay Reid and Ian Clayton in a big field of players. The current ladder can be found here

It's also exciting to see that that Liz and Michael Kelly have a handy lead in the Handicap event going into this Friday.

WAP 1 at Hamilton last Sunday

21 tables competed at Hamilton on Sunday in the opening round of the Waikato Area Pairs.

Congratulations to Diane & Jane for first place, Barry & Jenny for coming second and the Healy's in 5th place

Final results can be found here

Vouchers for Bridge.....

Most members know that the Club awards vouchers for Bridge Sessions. However did you know you can purchase table vouchers in advance ? Think how convenient it would be not having to find small change each time you play bridge, and it also makes life easier for the directors and our secretary

There are several ways of purchasing the vouchers:

•   Ask your director - they have a limited number of voucher packs - 5 vouchers for $15 available for purchase

•   Email the secretary with your details ( name & bridge number ) and then pay by internet banking with your Bridge Number & code ‘Vouchers’ in the Banking Application "free entry" fields

•   Via the director with an envelope containing your details and a cheque or cash at any bridge session ( as our secretary is part time allow for this in the delivery time )

•   See Yvonne in the office ( see programme book for office hours )

New Directors

Hamilton Club has two recently qualified Club Directors in it's membership

Congratulations to Ella Gray and Phil Thompson - both were successful in the latest exam series run by NZ Bridge
