Directing - Interested ?

The Waikato Bays Regional Committee is arranging for one or two weekend seminars next year, aimed at new and prospective directors. We will let you know the details of these in due course.

However, if you don't want to wait, you might like to consider directing training in Taupo in January.

I am organising training for new directors in the Taupo Club, and am happy to open it up to anyone else from Waikato Bays who would like to come. This will be 3 Wednesday afternoons in January, starting at 2pm:
• 11 January: Intro to directing, how to read the law book, manual etc
• 18 January: Movements for bridge sessions and how to set up the computer
• 25 January: Common rulings
There will be no charge.

Although it might be a long way to come, you might like to make a day of it - have a dip in the lake in the morning, do the seminar in the afternoon, go out to one of Taupo's fabulous eating places for dinner, and play bridge at night.

If you would like to come or have further questions, please email taupobridge@xtra.co.nz or ronadriscoll@xtra.co.nz

Babich Wines NZ Wide Pairs - UPDATED

Thanks to all those who turned up to play on Friday night. We ended up with 18 pairs who enjoyed a drink or two and some nibbles before and during the evening.

As usual some of the hands we got were not for the faint hearted and punishment was severe if you did the wrong thing. There were I think 1010 pairs playing across the country and 24 boards scored across that huge field by the following morning.

Everybody who played seemed to have a great time even when their scores didn't reflect that. November 3rd 2017 is the next edition of this event, don't miss it.

Updated : Well done to Barry & Jenny - overall winners !! Out of the 1010 pairs competing in the Babich NZ Wide Pairs two of our fellow club members came first

Hamilton Pairs Tournament held on the weekend

A big thank you to all the helpers who contributed to the success of this event. With three divisions - Open, Junior and a Novice section, there were over 130 players to organise and feed. From Karen, without whom the scoring would not take place so efficiently, the board dealing team who deal the small mountain of hands, to the members who contributed food towards the morning and afternoon teas (too many unknowns to mention anyone in particular, except for Jane who always contributes) to the members who gave their time preparing morning tea – Phil being the mainstay with his excellent scones, Julie and Mark preparing the lunches (very positive feedback and a good fundraiser) – and the afternoon tea stalwarts of Val, Tracey, Raewyn and Marion producing a very well received spread in spite of difficulties with equipment. To Gwynn who supervises the $$ and assists Tony and Joan who always helps out wherever she can. Thanks also to David for setting up all the computer and electronic equipment and Nigel and Mark who do all the little jobs that need attention throughout the day.

Without all of these people, our tournaments would not be the successful events they are known to be.
Well done all the helpers!
